Is Freedom of Speech, Free?

During a Q&A session with Senator John Kerry at the University of Florida on Monday, student Andrew Meyer was tasered by security after he was deemed to be disturbing the peace. The incident arose when Meyer had his microphone cut off while he was asking Senator Kerry a series of questions concerning the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Kerry’s membership in Yale’s Order of Skull and Bones.

I find it amusing that America the land of the free, a place where free speech is possible, that a person is arrested for his words. I will give you the fact that the student was aggressive in his questioning and that if he was not waving his hands around and yelling loudly the situation might have gone differently.

I think that Martin Luther King would be pissed if he saw what happened. Why has it become wrong or illegal to ask difficult questions to people who are in power? I find it frightening that we the people are scared of the government. The government should be scared of the people. Given it is in the governments best interest to keep the general public uninformed. Doing this makes the people more easily manipulated. I do believe that people in general never want to hear the truth. People like bad news sugar coated. We allow ourselves to be blinded, hoodwinked, and conned. If you think I am wrong you are self-deluded and full of shit. I am getting on a bit of a tangent here.

If you watch videos of the house of commons or some other government gather of people we have elected, you will notice that they do not act any more "civilized" then the FU student did. He did not use vulgar words "Fuddle-Duddle" or any vulgar gestures, but yet he was deemed to be out of control.

I believe that he was arrested for the simple purpose as to shield Kerry from having to answer a question. I find it my GOD given right, my duty to my family, my country, and to myself to question and press people in power to own up to their mistakes and actions. Is it not a part of democracy to question and hold our government accountable?

I also find it appalling that there was not one other person who helped or seemed to disagree with the actions of the security team. Kerry should have stepped in and stopped the proceedings. He should have upheld the students right to free speech. Instead he did nothing, even claimed to have be oblivious to the actions of the security team. As a side note, I hate teams. They are nothing more than a group of people who have been brainwashed and enslaved by a person in power. People never want to help others even when that person is in the right. Even the security team seemed to have little regard for the poor student. People are put on trial when they beat the living crap out of a person who rapped their daughter, or people who shoot an intruder. But we do not put our government on trial when they go to war, when our soldiers shoot some poor person in another country. If it is personal then so be it. When it is over someone else's money or when our government says it is "OK" then it is "OK". I ask you this...When is killing, arresting, or detaining someone alright? The sanctity of life... bullshit. If you don't agree with killing people then why are you turning your back. You are as much to blame as anyone else. You can’t fight City Hall, but you can goddamn sure blow it up. If you see someone asking for help and do nothing to assist them then you are a conspirator in the crime.

If you are so dumb to think that the student became, or was out of hand, then I ask you, don't you think that you might become a bit anxious if you were being attacked, mauled and then threatened by a security team. I sure as hell know that I might have the inclination to fight back.

You may not agree with the student, but I want you to think about this... Would black people be "free" if they had not protested? If aggression is not the way, if you are a peace lover then I condemn you. I do so because I do not see you doing anything to stop the war in Iraq or any other wars. I am not saying violence is the way but it sure as hell seems to get things done most of the time. I don't think that starving myself or having a silent vigil is going to accomplish much. If you have a better idea then let me know. Has boycotting gas stations cause the price of gas to be lowered? Dumbass, it hasn't done a damn thing.

I may not agree with what your dumbass is saying, but I will fight with my life for your ability to say it. By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth. Given that the world is full of people who use the "word" yous and say things such as "don't got none" that says a fuck of a lot. Not to mention the fact that people think that the word a lot is spelled "alot". As I type this I noticed that the spell check has not picked up yous as a spelling mistake, I am appalled. Remember that free speech is not FREE, you have to fight for it.

I am sure that my point is not going to be liked by everyone. I am sure it may even anger some. But you don't see me not allowing you to voice your opinion. I encourage it. Only by expressing ourselves to other will we grow and learn. Albeit that money and greed are the underlying cause of all problems in this world.

I am embarrassed, ashamed, humiliated, and guilty of what we have done with our short lives on our planet. We treat others with disdain, and hatred. We kill others to further our own personal gains. We allow people to starve and die of disease. We deny people the basic rights to life. I don't care how you justify it, I know you would think different if you were the one being shot or dying of starvation.

"I'm the enemy because I like to think. I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice." -- Denis Leary

If we do not allow free speech, then the terrorist will win.

I have tried to limit my vulgarities in this rant due to the fact that, yes, I agree that it could somehow take away from my point. I do not want people to walk away after reading this and only think about the swearing and not the point I was trying to make. On that note...

We are all Assholes....this mean you!
